Day 1-3: After your arrival into Johannesburg you will connect directly onto your flight to Victoria Falls and Chobe National Park. You will be met in the Arrivals Hall of the Victoria Falls Airport by your guide who will transfer you to Ilala Lodge, a 20 minute drive. Ilala Lodge is a privately owned and managed hotel within short walking distance to Victoria Falls; it is the closest hotel to the falls. You will be allocated standard ensuite rooms overlooking the National Park and wildlife. It is not uncommon to have elephants grazing just a few feet from your window! Included are three nights' accommodations and breakfast daily, as well as dinner on Day 3 at The Boma Restaurant.
You will have ample time at leisure to explore the Falls and its surroundings. This is the world's largest waterfall! The locals call it 'The Smoke That Thunders', referring to the mist cloud that can be seen from a long distance away. Your guide will collect you from the Ilala Lodge and take you on a guided tour of the magnificent Victoria Falls. Entrance fees are included.
No trip to Victoria Falls would be complete without enjoying a traditional meal at The Boma - Place of Eating. Positioned near the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge and nestled amidst the indigeous Gusu forest, The Boma is not just another ethnic restaurant, but a unique cultural experience that bombards the senses with the tastes, sights, sounds, and smells of Africa - together with the warmth and hospitality of Zimbabwe and its people. Specializing in a superb selection of Zimbabwean dishes, fish, a variety of game meat and 'potjiekos' (hunter's stew), as well as vegetarian meals - diners are invited to sample ethnic delicacies and observe local customs. There is live African entertainment every night and guests are each given an African drum to join in on the pulse and beat of the African rhythm.
Day 4-6: You will be collected around 1100 hours from the lodge by our representative and driven to the Kazungula border crossing, where you enter Botswana and then proceed to the Elephant Valley Lodge. On Botswana's far northern border lies the Kwando, Linyanti, and Chobe river system forming a series of lakes, islands, and floodplains. This area forms the Chobe National Park, famous for its large buffalo and elephant herds. In addition to a variety of predators, there is an abundance of wild game and bird life that decorate these beautiful waterways. Game viewing in this area is a unique experience as the lodge is situated on the doorstep of Chobe National Park, which hosts the largest concentration of wildlife in Southern Africa.
This park is the best place in the world to see the majestic African elephant for it is home to the world's largest elephant population. Game drives into Chobe National Park depart three times daily. Elephant Valley Lodge is a tented lodge situated within the Lesoma Valley in the Kasane Forest Reserve bordering Chobe. The main bar and dining complex overlook a waterhole which offers 24-hour game viewing and the chance to witness gigantic elephants from only a short distance away.
The Lesoma Valley has a natural migration path which offers fantastic game viewing opportunities. In the afternoon, you will take a three-hour drive into Chobe National Park where you can view hundreds of elephants in a day as well as an array of other African animals such as Cape Buffalo, rhino, hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of antelope species.
Three nights are included at Elephant Valley Lodge as well as three meals daily. Available optional activites include boat cruises on the Chobe River, fishing for tigerfish, and guided walks through the forest at certain times of the year. An extra charge applies for these activities. Game drives are available throughout the day in Chobe National Park as well as night drives in Kasane Forest Reserve. There is also a swimming pool and a curio shop.
On your final morning in Chobe, we will depart from the lodge and head back to Victoria Falls Airport for the fight back to Johannesburg. After your arrival into Johannesburg, you will be met by your guide and start your drive towards Kruger National Park. This night you will be staying just outside the park at Blyde Canyon Resort. Dinner and breakfast are included.
Day 7 & 8: Following breakfast this morning, you will depart for Satara Rest Camp inside Kruger National Park where you will go on daily safari excursions. Satara Camp is ideally situated to best observe the amazing Big Five and dangerous game that Kruger is famous for. Elephants, rhinos, lions, leopards, and Cape Buffalo are numerous here and can be found around virtually every corner. Kruger National Park has the greatest number in diversity of mammals in the world. Night drive safaris are also available at this location to view the sometimes pront to be nocturnal big cats of Africa. Two nights' accommodations are included at Satara as well as breakfast daily.
Day 9 & 10: After two days at Satara you will travel through the park to Skukuza Rest Camp for the next two nights. Skukuza Rest Camp is in the southern end of Kruger and tends to be in the slightly greener area of this magnificent biosphere. Two nights' accommodations are included at Skukuza including breakfast daily. Available optional activities here include Elephant Ride Safaris at morning, afternoon, or evenint, and night drive safaris to search for lions and leopards. An extra charge applies for these activities.
Day 11: After breakfast at camp you will leave Kruger Park and head to White River Lodge near the town of Hazyview from here you will do an elephant ride safari and excursion. This picturesque town is also the hub for many other outdoor activities, such as white water rafting, hot air ballooning over the Bushveld, and much, much more. Africa Travel Safety Tips
Africa is no more unsafe to travel in than most other continents around the globe and even though one might never encounter any problems, it is better to be on the safe side whenever you travel to a new destination.
Here are some helpful tips...
- Do not leave your luggage unattended and keep it within sight.
- Try and avoid counting money in public.
- Southern Africa has well conditioned roads in most areas, but keep to the road signs and try not to take short cuts or lengthy detours.
- Plan your route for each day's travel the night before and leave an itinerary of such travel with someone at your hotel or lodge. Check back in with that person upon returning or when you arrive at your next destination.
- At night....stay within well lit areas and avoid following someone whom you don't know, anywhere, for any reason.
- Wallets & Cell phones should be carried on person and preferrably not in a bag.
- Try and avoid wearing excessive jewelry in public and not carrying too many cameras & electronics around.
- Be aware of where you leave purses or bags.... Do not hang them from the back of chairs, under tables, on hooks in restrooms .
- In South Africa - most of the National Roads (Interstates) are clearly marked on maps with a capitol "N" and in some cases are also Toll Roads, which are considered to be safer to travel by. Try to do all your driving in the daytime and spend evenings at your lodge, hotel or in well lit public places.
